Popis výsledku v anglickém jazyce | Some controversial phenomena in prehistoric sources can be understood by means of data about the behaviour of spatio-temporally convergent archaic societies. For example, the concept of the so-called long-distance wars, i.e. brutal burglarious and murderous attacks on remote targets, seems to explain the discoveries made at the site of Herxheim - not only the (1) presence of people and their artefacts (especially pottery) from various distant regions and (2) mass cannibalism of abducted captives, but also (3) the function of a shallow doubled pseudo-ditch as a means designed to protect the settlement of the aggressors against a non-material, spiritual threat. The individual forms of manifestations of violence from the late Linear Pottery Culture (LBK) viewed from this perspective seem to be part of a sequence of events corresponding to the phases and consequences of the above type of armed violence. Different variants of long-distance wars, motivated by a mix of biological, cultural, economic and ecological incentives, religious beliefs and irrational motives (such as stress caused by anxiety, hunger, or overpopulation, profits from slavery, pillage, trade, ambitions of individuals or groups), have convergently and discontinuously survived under different names (attacks of the Sea Peoples, pirates, slave traders, Vikings, etc.) throughout history since ancient times. |
